Your child will gain a lot from learning music at an early age. The temptation of having a little Mozart at home is often a strong motivation. Beyond this, introducing your child to music at an early age could improve their listening skills, facilitate their language development, help build their motor skills, and strengthen the family bond, among other benefits.
Join us in our music & art journey with your little ones at Winchester Stage Music Center!
In this interactive class we share the joy of music while learning the fundamentals of music & the basics of keyboard with creativity! Our Early childhood musical program incorporates a diversity of methods including Dalcroze Eurhythmics, one of the renowned approaches to perceive the body as a musical instrument.
Each class begins with a tailored greeting song followed by an introduction of participants, class structure and musical theme of the day. A good routine is to warm up before exploring musical concepts such as beat, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, articulation and improvisation (description of these elements below). This is when the most exciting interaction begins with themed songs, movement and age-appropriate instruments and props. Exploration of the musical concepts are accompanied by LIVE music (keyboard, accordion, ukulele, percussion instruments, props) & voice. Live music allows for better interaction with children, adapting the flow on the spot and making it easier to follow.
IMPROVISATION is an exciting and wonderful way of introducing our Little Musartists to classical music written for children. We discover the greatest classical pieces (Carnival of the Animals, Peter and the Wolf, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake etc) through music, creative movement, theatrical elements and art! This is a great opportunity for your little ones to expand their imagination using age-appropriate props, bodies, and voice as their primary musical instrument.
It is all about Fast and Slow. We imagine together and come up with fast and slow creatures. Then we connect our imagination with music. We improvise more than ever! We have our egg shakers & rhythm sticks ready as we fuel up for creative movement. Remember our body is our main musical instrument.
You certainly have color pencils or crayons and paper at home. We will need them during the 2nd week. Relation of music and visual arts is an exciting part of our program!
We focus on learning & developing a steady beat through creative movement & body percussion. Clap, stomp, pat, snap, bounce and many more! Your little ones will discover new ways of responding to the beat and learn the difference between beat & rhythm in a fun way.
We also have musical games with colorful egg shakers/maracas, tambourines, rhythm sticks and rainbow scarves. We have our egg shakers & rhythm sticks ready as we fuel up for creative movement. Remember our body is our main musical instrument. So getting a couple of egg shakers for our class is a good idea! Some parents use wooden spoons as rhythm sticks. That’s a creative solution too!
For one of our fun activities during the 1st week, we need disposable plates or plastic spoons, scotch tape, and beans or beads (under adult supervision).
In our musical journey we come across loud & soft sounds. Our instructor will demonstrate the difference through musical instruments, body percussion & songs. We will also improvise with rhythm sticks and shakers and games such as Play and Freeze.
Exploring High and Low sounds! Our instructor will demonstrate on various musical instruments and your little ones will come up with their own way of expressing high and low sounds through sounds of nature, voice, movement and drawing. We focus on ear training and musical games. Active participation of parents & caregivers will certainly help the little ones learn faster!
Drawing and coloring supplies this week? Definitely yes!
Repetition in the learning process is important especially for young learners. Week 6 involves a lot of repetitive patterns from previous lessons to revise and rehearse what we practiced during previous weeks. We will improvise around the musical concepts together with children and parents/caregivers.
Are the sounds smooth or spiky? In week 5 we will learn staccato and legato. Keyboard, accordion & violin are our best friends in this session. We will definitely incorporate creative movement and songs as well as musical drawing. After week 5 your little ones will be able to hear & feel the difference between connected and detached sounds.
We know that all children are different & we have creative activities including musical storytelling during our classes to shake it up & keep young learners engaged! Our sessions are structured but yet flexible to modify the flow on the spot based on the response of our participants.
Our themed songs introduce early learning concepts such as colors, shapes, animal sound recognition, understanding emotions.
At the end of each class, our instructor gives helpful tips to parents & caregivers about a practice routine until the next week.
An important part of our music enrichment program is to help practice self-expression and expand children’s imagination. Music & Expression activities build a connection between music & nature, visual & sensory art, literature, improvisation as well as learning music through senses. For these activities we use both live and recorded music.
This is a great opportunity for your little ones to discover the power of music in an exciting way, develop creativity, coordination and many more!

Music also helps increase a child’s socio-emotional skills helping to lay the foundation for expressing thoughts and emotions in a healthy way. Learning an instrument, such as piano, helps students develop many useful life skills such as diligence, perseverance, and self-expression all while granting a reward that will last the rest of their lives.
