Meet Dr. Ryan Suleiman: Winchester Stage Music Center Piano Teacher
Dr. Ryan Suleiman is a composer and pianist born to Lebanese and Mid-Western parents in California. His compositions engage with dreaming, the natural world, and the understated beauty of everyday life. His one-act chamber opera, Moon, Bride, Dogs, was described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “a gem” with “an aesthetic that is at once so strange and so accessible.” He has collaborated with numerous renowned ensembles throughout the United States on music for orchestra, opera, chamber ensemble, soloists, dancers, and even puppets. His piano cycle, Under Moonlight, was recorded by Jai Jeffryes in his solo album, Amethyst, distributed by Naxos.
Ryan completed is Ph.D. in Music Composition/Theory at University of California, Davis, and his Bachelor of Music in Theory/Composition with an emphasis in piano performance at Sacramento State. In addition to teaching music privately for over 10 years, he has taught as a Lecturer at Sacramento State School of Music and was an Associate Instructor and Teaching Assistant at UC Davis. He has also helped students prepare for their theory exams in programs such as AP, Certificate of Merit (Music Teachers Association of California), and ABRSM.
Dr. Suleiman's aim as a teacher is to help his students find an expressive outlet through music, become the best version of their artistic selves, and introduce them to new possibilities. Above all, he wants them to have fun in the process. Any style is welcome, and to that end he loves to help students explore their own interests while introducing them to new ideas. Ryan offers lessons in piano, composition, and music theory. For new composition students, he recommends at least 2-3 years of experience on an instrument.
